FREDDIE HUGHES interview in brief by DACAR "Send My Baby Back" R&B charts in 1970 Freddie Hughes was born at Berkeley’s Herrick Hospital. One of five Children, two girls and three boys. He is the second son born to his parents Fred W. Hughes Sr. and Lola Mae Anderson. At the age of five his remarkably high tenor voice was so impressively noticeable, the members of his congregation showed their appreciation monetarily during his solos. This extraordinary gift from God and his strong religious background has gaven way to his growth and grooming which has lead to the performer you see today. Freddie has experienced many years as a performer. He has enjoyed working along with such greats as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Etta James, Ike & Tina Turner and the Bobby Murray Band (band leader & guitarist for Etta James) to name a few. Freddie has performed in venues, from the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area to New York as well as London, France, Italy, Switzerland and Holland. Freddie’s love for music and his talent gave way to many opportunities, his popularity grew, opening many doors that eventually lead to his hit single, Send My Baby Back in 1970. As a song writer & Composer his compositions of songs drawn from life’s experiences, poetically and melodically expressed, takes on their own style of soulful blues. Many of Freddie’s recordings have become collector’s items and are very much in demand all over the world. His albums Under the musical direction of Chris Burns and produced by both Marlon Hunter and Chris Burns “The Soul of Freddie Hughes” was created in 1997. This CD contains songs co-written by Hughes, Burns and Hunter, recorded at the House of Hughes in Atlanta Ga. On the IFGABM Label. Freddie accepted the invitation to sing lead vocals on this album Produced by Chris burns “The Future Is Now” released in 2000 features Freddie along with the International Alpha Band.
